DURATEARS ®
Ocular Lubricant Ointment
DRY EYES :
Dry eyes are caused by changes in the quantity or the quality of the natural tears that the tear glands produce. Because the tears are imperfect, they have a tendency to prematurely break up into dry spots on the front surface of the eye instead of forming a smooth, continuous lubricating layer. These dry spots are very sensitive and uncomfortable.
There are several different causes of dry eyes. The most common is aging. As we get older, tear productio naturally diminishes, so the eyes have an increased tendency to become “dry” through lack of sufficier tears. Other causes, regardless of age, can include allergies, vitamin deficiencies, and hot, arid climatic corditions.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF DRY EYES ?
Because of the many causes of dry eyes, symptoms may vary. However, the most common symptoms in clude burning, itching, a sandy or gritty sensation, tiredness, and redness. In some cases, discomfort macause an overabundance of tears but, because they lack certain components, these excess tears canncproperly wet the eye, so they become an annoyance.
RELIEF FOR DRY EYES :
The most satisfactory answer to the problem of dry eyes is the use of artificial tear solutions and, if necessary, special lubricating ointments.
