Composition:
Each sachet ( 5 g) contains:
Piperazine citrate 195 mg
Khellin 1.83 mg
Colchicine 0.30 mg
Effervescent base to 5 g
Properties:
URICOL PLUS is a multifunctional balanced fomnulation combining three active
ingredients with antigout, urinary antispasmodic and urate antilithic effects.
Cok:hicine is a potent antigout that relieves the manifestations of acute gouty
arthritis. Colchicine acts by Inhibiting the formation and release of the glycoprotein that causes joint pain and inflammation during phagocytosis of urate crystals. Colchicine is also effective in decreasing the frequency and severity of acute attacks when taken prophylactically in chronic gout. Khellin, the second ingredient in URICOL PLUS, is a powertul antispasmodic. Khellin relieves urinary smooth muscle spasm and hypermotility associated with the irritation due to urate crystals. Piperazine citrate, the third ingredient in URICOL PLUS, adjusts the pH of urine to the appropriate value for dissolution and prevention of the deposition of urate crystals. These properties demonstrate the superiority of URICOL PLUS as potent antigout with high efficacy in treatment of urinary tract spasm and prevention of urate lithiasis. Also, the formulation of URICOL PLUS in effervescent granules makes its
taste pleasant and palatable and its absorption rapid with fast onset of action.
Indications:
– Acute gouty arthritis, to relieve pain and inflammation.
– Chronic gout, as prophylaxis against acute attacks.
– As an adjunct therapy to reduce frequency 01 acute gouty attacks and during’
treatment with allopurinol and uricosurics.
– Prevention of urate stone formation.
Dosage :
The contents of one sachet is added to half a glass of water and taken during effervescence
– acte gouty arthritis : chets every 2 to 3 hours until the ain disappears. If GI side effects occur, the treatment should be discontinued.
– Chronic gout: 1-2 sachets once or twice daily or as directed by the physician.
– Prophylaxis against urate stones: as in chronic gout.
Contraindlcatlons:
Hypersensitivity to any component of URICOL PLUS, and severe renal impaimnent.
Precautions:
URICOL PLUS is used cautiously in patients with renal, hepatic, cardiac or GI
problems.
Side effects:
URICOL PLUS is safe and well tolerated. GI disturbances, e.g. nausea, vonniting,
diarrhea and abdominal pain, may occur.
Pregnancy alftllactatlon :
Medications containing colchicine are not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Drug interactions:
Concomitant” use of cyclosporin with colchicine may increase the risk of myopathies. The use of erythronnycin with colchicine for more than 2
weeks in patients with hepatic and renal marrow depressants and radiotherapy with colchicine increases the incidence of bone
marrow depression.
